Over time facial lines appear because of repetitive facial movement. Also known as hyperdynamic facial musculature. Initially, lines and wrinkles are only seen with active facial expressions such as frowning, laughing or smiling and are referred to as dynamic lines. Over time, our dynamic lines become permanently etched in our skin and then become static lines that are visible even while our facial muscles are at rest.

Neuromodulators are injected directly into the targeted muscle, or regions of muscles, and are used to temporarily relax the muscles that are responsible for repetitive facial movement. By inhibiting movement in facial muscles that have dominated our expressions, we can prevent skin from wrinkling and creasing. After injections with these agents you will notice a smoother and more balanced facial appearance. As a result, you will look more refreshed and youthful.

Types of Neuromodulators

Botox® and Dysport® are safe and effective prescription injections in a class of pharmaceuticals called neuromodulators that are made from the Botulinum toxin. They are manufactured by different companies but achieve similar results in the way that they relax facial muscles in order to eliminate or soften facial lines and wrinkles.

Botox® and Dysport® can be used proactively to stop lines and wrinkles from forming. Professionals in the aesthetic field consider that through repeated Botox® or Dysport® usage, the muscle “memory” of existing wrinkles actually fades or disappears and you will maintain a smoother appearance naturally. For this reason, neuromodulators are widely known as a rejuvenation technique.

The degree of muscle inhibition with Botulinum toxin in a given treatment area is determined by your specific preference and need to maintain some movement in those areas. We customize your treatments, as some clients will prefer complete paralysis in a given area whereas others will desire to maintain partial movement. Optimal results are an aesthetically pleasing result tailored to your preferences.

The difference between Botox® and Dysport®

Botox® and Dysport® are similar products manufactured by different companies. Allergan is the original company and manufacturer that created Botox®. The safety of Botox® was well established over the years and became popular as a wrinkle smoothing treatment. Galderma, another leading company in the cosmetic field, began to manufacture Dysport® . Both are Botulinum toxin A, a protein that works by relaxing targeted muscles. The Dysport® protein is slightly smaller so it works more quickly.

Both products provide fantastic results in smoothing lines and wrinkles. We are proud to offer both products directly from their reputable manufacturers. We follow the highest standard in both products’ dilution in order to give you optimal results.

You are a good candidate for Botox® or Dysport® if you

Have strong frown lines between your eyebrows, also known as the 11’s, you would like to eliminate
Have vertical lines across your forehead you would like to soften or eliminate
Have smile lines or crow’s feet around your eyes you would like to soften or eliminate
Have a strong square jawline you would like to soften

You are not a good candidate for Botox® or Dysport® if you

Have an infection where Botox® Cosmetic will be injected
Are on antibiotics used to treat infections
Have any diseases that affect your nerves or muscles
Are pregnant or breastfeeding
Have a known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in Botox® Cosmetic

Before treatment instructions for Botox® and Dysport®:

To minimize bruising please:

Avoid aspirin, vitamin E, St. John’s Wort, gingko biloba, evening primrose, ginseng, omega’s, fish oil, flaxseed, garlic and other blood thinning supplements for 10 days.
Avoid ibuprofen and alcohol for 2 days.
If possible, please come to your appointment with a cleanly washed face.

After Treatment instructions for Botox® and Dysport®:

Do not massage the treated area on the day of treatment.

Avoid lying down for 4 hours after treatment.

Avoid applying heat to treated area on day of treatment.

Avoid activities that cause facial flushing on day of treatment, including consuming alcohol, hot tub, sauna, exercise or tanning.

Please gently apply a cool compress for a couple of minutes every few hours to reduce discomfort and minimize bruising. If bruising occurs, it typically resolves in 7-10 days.

After treatment, oral consumption or topical application of Arnica Montana may help reduce bruising and swelling.

These treatments generally take effect in 3-14 days. Full development of the treatment could take up to 14 days and last 2.5-4 months.
